Dr. Cindy Maddeaux graduated from the University of Calgary in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, receiving First Class honours. During her undergraduate training she completed research in the area of stress and health psychology at the Alberta Children's Hospital Behavioral Research Unit. She received an University of Calgary Undergraduate Merit Award as well as the Alberta Heritage Fund's Louise McKinney Scholarship recognizing exceptional academic achievement. Dr. Maddeaux completed her graduate work in Psychology at Carleton university. She received a master's of Science with specialization in Neuroscience in 1990 and Doctorate in Psychology in 1996. During her graduate training, she conducted research on stress induced neuro-chemical changes associated with the development of mood disorders. She received the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada's Postgraduate Scholarship at both the Master's and Doctoral level. Dr. Maddeaux worked as an intern and Research fellow at the Ottawa Civic Hospital between 1994 and 1996. During her training, she conducted diagnostic assessment as well as individual therapy and group psycho-educational programs in the Stress Management, Eating Disorders and Marital and Family Therapy Clinics. She was also involved in research which evaluated the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral and emotion focused therapy in treating eating disorders. Dr. Maddeaux joined the private practice of Blouin & Blouin & Associates in 1995. She has trained extensively during this time with Drs. Arthur Blouin and Dr. Jane Blouin and has attended a number of intensive training programs in cognitive therapy with Dr. Albert Ellis, Dr. Christine Padesky and Dr. Jeffrey Young. She has also been actively involved in collaborative projects with Columbia University and the US National Institute of Mental Health in the development of computerized psychiatric assessment programs which have been widely used in epidemiological and clinical research as well as clinical practice. She currently provides assessment and treatment services for eating disorders, body image disturbance, anxiety disorders, depression, and relationship problems. Dr. Maddeaux takes an empathic and compassionate approach to form a close, collaborative relationship with her clients. Dr. Maddeaux lives in the downtown core of Ottawa with her husband of 15 years and their two children.
