Dr. Jill Firestone graduated from Queen’s University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Psychology on the Dean’s Honour list. Dr. Firestone completed her graduate work in Clinical Psychology at York University, where she received her M.A. in 2003 and her Ph.D. in 2008. She is currently in the process of registering with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Dr. Firestone has provided psychological services at the Ottawa Cognitive Therapy Centre since August 2005 under the supervision of Drs. Arthur Blouin, Jane Blouin and Cindy Maddeaux. Dr. Firestone has carried out over 6000 supervised clinical hours of training to date. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre in 2007, where she trained in assessment, therapy, consultation, and treatment planning for adolescents and adults with a wide range of psychological issues. In the past, she has worked at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), inpatient and outpatient units of the North York General Hospital, and at York University's Psychotherapy Clinic in Toronto. In addition to her extensive clinical psychology training, Dr. Firestone has a strong background in the psychology of serious health related issues. Her doctoral research investigated the effectiveness of a psychosocial intervention among cardiac patients. She has been successfully conducting research in the field of cardiac psychology and psychosocial oncology since attending York University in 2000. Dr. Firestone has received numerous awards including a prestigious Fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), an Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS), and a Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Health Professional Student Research Award. She is a co-investigator for a large Heart and Stroke Foundation research grant award. Her most recent publications include co-authorship of a chapter in an Abnormal Psychology textbook and a scientific article published in the American Heart Journal. Dr. Firestone has also taught a 3rd year undergraduate course on Health Psychology. Dr. Firestone has a special interest in providing individual and group therapy and assessment services for adolescents and adults, using a theoretical approach based on Cognitive Therapy. She currently provides assessment and treatment services for eating disorders, anxiety, depression / mood disorders and personality disorders.
